I remember it so vividly
at a table, in the middle of
another wintery, cold night
crayons painted pictures
of preconstructed imagery
cartoons to some,
they were real to you,
and I was alive again.
“stay in the lines” you’d laugh
and right there, you saved me.
And on a rainy October night,
my heart felt right
for the very first time
as we all laughed
inside the house
on your birthday
Fast forward, seven weeks.
through cries, your life changes,
as does mine.
A new life, and a friendship at a
crossroads, so to speak.
“Stay in touch” you said, through a
broken phone line,
and right there, you left me.
